In 1968, Man Landed on Mars!!!

That's history according to what looks to be a startlingly wonderful short film called MAN CONQUERS SPACE.
Before a man was ever launched into space there was the dream of space travel. A dream given life by legends like Werner Von Braun and Chesley Bonestell in the 1950's long before there was the 'space race' and the showdown of super powers. This was space when it was a pure dream with men taking it apart piece by piece and imagining it into possibility.
We have seen their vision in films like DESTINATION MOON and CONQUEST OF SPACE and 2001. Well, it seems that an enterprising group of MAC users down under have decided to make their vision of Space the alternative history of Mankind.
I'm not entirely sure of the exact state of progress for this film, but they have a pretty groovy website and a trailer that absolutely captures the dream of what SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!
This vision of the Space Program has so much more style and coolness than what really came to be. For me, the Eagle was always kind of dinky looking... and I understand that the weight issues required it to be dinky, but dang it, I wanted it to look majestic... to look like something out of Chesley Bonestell's universe. And dammit, the moon needed to have gigantic cracks, not powdered moon dust crap! Where were my dang crags and gothic jagged things? Ah, here we have them. Here we see space as it should be.
This is the power of science FICTION.... That which we imagine to be. I appreciate the films and documentaries about how it was really done. One of my favorite films this year has been THE DISH... But why can't we have films that make us dream again?
Seeing this trailer... I want whole films, mini-series... Cable Channels dedicated to this vision of Science Fiction. Screw IMPULSE engines... Bah Space Shuttles.. I want my Conical Saturn Shuttle!!!
