Eric Bana on HULK and BLACKHAWK DOWN

Hey folks, Harry here with news on that bad bastard playing Bruce Banner in Ang Lee's HULK next year... and Ridley Scott's BLACKHAWK DOWN this post Christmas! Enjoy...

Eric Bana is on TV's The Ray Martin show as I speak, and I've transcribed some of the talk for you.

Of the rumours that BLACK HAWK DOWN will be 2002's big Oscar contender, Bana says "I'm not surprised by all the Oscar talk. I mean Ridley Scott knows what he's doing. I saw this film a couple of weeks ago and it really is a masterpiece. It is the most amazing war film you'll ever see. It's intelligent, thoughtful and show's both side's". Of the budget, Bana assures us we will see where every cent of the $200 Million dollar budget went.

Bana finds his new hotshot status all a bit surreal. "Jerry Bruckheimer, who had seen me in "Chopper", had called my agent and the agent calls me at (TV show) 'something in the air' and said Ridley Scott wants to talk to you we need you to be on a secure line at 12: 30 today. Bana then took the film on the bedroom floor of his house. "It was bizzare" he says.

Of the shoot, Bana said he and co-star William Fichtner, among others, were selected to do trainig in North Carolina. "Awesome!" he says. Joking that now he's a "fully trained killer". Dangling from fishwire and doing such dangerous stunts had Bana returning to his quarters at night laughing to himself "what a dickhead" as we thought about what he is doing. "I'd just get back and thank my lucky stars".

Ray also persisted to get info about "The Hulk". "I co-star with myself" says Bana. "It's directed by Ang Lee- the guy who did Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Ice Storm". Bana continues "I play Bill Bixby's character the mild manerred Bruce Banner and the psycopathic Hulk." Adding, "Yeah Psychotic again", refering to his role in "Chopper". "It's a big secret" is all Bana would say about how his character would turn into the Hulk. "It's filmed in L.A, and I will be there for six months of next year doing that".

Finally, Bana joked about working with greats like Ridley Scott and Ang Lee. "It's a joke" it really is, he says, expecting a "Candid Camera" crew to come along at any time.

Martin also mentioned industry whispers that Eric Bana could be next years Academy Award Winner.
