Last Wednesday I saw a sneak screeing of New Line Cinema's "Freddy vs. Jason", which is slated for an August 15th release. The film I saw was, I believe, 95% complete...although the ending was withheld for the sake of keeping it off the net. I've been a fan of horror films for years...(you can just imagine how excited I was when one of the first XXX films I starred in was a Sin City film entitled "Hung Wankenstein"...I played the Bride, complete with big hair and white stripes).
"Freddy vs. Jason" begins at Camp Crystal Lake before moving uptown to the familiar neighborhood of Elm Street. I was far too excited during the film to keep an accurate body tally, but I believe Jason wound up slaughtering many more fun-loving teenyboppers than Freddy did. As is the custom, the teens who have sex wind up dead -- what's the deal with that, anyway? I want to produce my own horror porno where the only ones who get killed are the people who DON'T have sex!
The film has Freddy Krueger causing nightmares for Jason Voorhees, literally -- we even get to see Jason's mama make a brief appearance (you'll remember that she was decapitated in the original "Friday the 13th"). She appears in one of the nightmares, urging Jason to "Kill her, son!". I love it when families can find common ground like that...it makes people so much closer. Kinda like the "Taboo" series.
Freddy needs Jason to strike fear into the hearts of the Elm Street teens so he can come back to "life" and terrorize us all once again. He uses Jason to achieve that end. Once that happens, however, Freddy decides to eliminate Jason -- his competition -- and the two begin to battle. The entire final battle takes place at Camp Crystal Lake, and these are the scenes that horror fans have been dreaming of for years...Freddy and Jason duking it out, the machete vs. the finger knives. I got so excited I almost climaxed. The fight scenes are a shoo-in for an MTV nod next year and are some of the most enjoyable action scenes I've seen all year.
Honestly, I have to say that I absolutely did love this film -- if you're a fan of these characters I can guarantee that you'll want to see it at least twice. After seeing the film I think I have an idea as to the ending, but look forward to the 15th to find out. Kudos to New Line for delivering exactly what Freddy vs. Jason should have been - a bloody good time.
