Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some super cool news for those of us attending the San Diego Comic-Con this year. Already officially announced is Sarah Michell Gellar with a presentation on THE GRUDGE and a panel on SHAUN OF THE DEAD with director Edgar Wright and super-human Simon Pegg in attendance, but I got another one for you guys.
I talked with a source high up in the Comic-Con hierarchy about some rumors I've been hearing about appearances at the Con this year and I got a confirmation on one.
Keanu Reeves will be making an appearance to promote CONSTANTINE, the film made from Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis's comic HELLBLAZER. I'm a particular fan of Ennis' work on PREACHER, but I must admit that I've never had the chance to take a look at HELLBLAZER, even though I've heard great things about it.
The word from the early screenings of CONSTANTINE have been solid, although I don't think we've heard from a big fan of the comics yet, so as to whether or not it's a good adaptation as well as a solid film is unknown. I know there is some dissent about Keanu's casting, but as I said above I don't feel one way or the other yet. That may change after I read the books, but I hope it's a good flick.
Also appearing for the film is Djimon Hounsou (AMISTAD, GLADIATOR), who plays a character named Papa Midnite in the movie.
I've heard some rumblings of other coolness, but this one is confirmed. Expect to see the official announcement on the Comic-Con Website this weekend or early next week. This is shaping up to be a great Con this year! Hope to see you folks there!!!
