Herakles on the remake of SHALL WE DANCE
Hey folks, Harry here with a review that disagrees slightly with the review from Marley - just a tad. This person enjoyed Jennifer Lopez's performance, and I think the whole, let's shit on J Lo should really be given a rest. The word from the set of MONSTER IN LAW is that she's really quite excellent. Well, here we go...
Hi Harry,
I have read a review of Shall We Dance on your website. I saw this movie a couple of months ago. 'Marley Angel' said it is very enjoyable. And yes, it is very enjoyable.
But one thing: 'Marley' didn't like Jennifer Lopez (no wonder: she saw the screening as an opportunity to slam JLo); I did (and no, I am not a fan of J-Lo). To tell you the truth: almost everyone in my focus group did like La Lopez.
Shall We Dance: a movie based on the Japanese movie "Shall We Dance". Ballroom dancing, Richard Gere's boring life. That's what this movie is about.
Richard Gere is good in the movie. He was great in Chicago. He is great here. He has great chemistry with everyone. This movie is about him and no one else.
Susan Sarandon is good in the movie. Her performance is one of the reasons why you should see this movie. The chemistry between Richard and Gere is almost perfect. Susan rules.
And Jennifer Lopez - surprise surprise - is good in the movie too. Mrs Anthony glows in the movie. She looks gorgeous, she can dance (the tango scene is hot) and she can act. Yes, she can act! She has something very heartwarming. I know some people hate Jennifer Lopez and like to bash her if they get the opportunity, but this time JLo has done a good job. She is the pearl of the movie, but unfortunately she has just a supporting role. And ehm...I have advised Miramax to expand Lopez's role (forgive me if the final version sucks...).
The BEST performance is from Stanley Tucci. He is very funny. I love him in The Terminal. I love him here. I really love him here. He is in one of the best scenes of the movie.
Problems? I have only two problems:
1) The story is predictable.
2) The cameos: why Ja Rule and why not 50 Cent? Everyone but Ja Rule!
Shall We Dance is feel-good movie. Better than expected. One of the most entertaining movies of the year.
