What Is James Cameron

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Strange things are happening over at Lightstorm. Even as James Cameron continues to prep BATTLE ANGEL ALITA for the bigscreen, he’s finishing up work on his last 3D IMAX documentary, one which sounds quite a bit different from GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS. Here’s a short note I got from someone who snuck a peek:

Hey, Harry and Mori…

I was at the Giant Screen Trade Association screening in Canada earlier this week and caught the first footage from James Cameron's new Aliens of the Deep documentary. I’ll be honest... I’m not sure what the hell we were looking at. There was some rather boring footage of a really cool sub hovering over some kind of undersea mountain and then the coolest underwater critters you've ever seen, including the ugliest fish in the world. I had to leave early to make another event, so I didn’t get to see Cameron talking, but they gave out these press kit thingys, and they say the film is about underwater hot vents and their connection to life in outerspace, so I’m curious to see whatever the final version of this thing is. Other people at the conference were very excited when I talked to them about it. Sounds like Cameron convinced them.

I can augment what he saw with some things I’ve heard. Evidently, Cameron’s planning to take footage from these underwater expeditions in which he recorded footage of the insane lifeforms that appear around underwater hot vents and transpose it to the moon of Europa, adding in CG backgrounds and filling out the world to show you what life on another planet might look like. There’s a lot of FX work being done for this, and most of the crew working on it are sort of testing their capabilities so that when they gear up on ALITA, they’ll be ready to roll.

Not sure when this hits screens, but I’ll definitely check it out as soon as it does.

"Moriarty" out.
