The Voice Of The Guide Is...

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

... Stephen Fry. Which is, in my opinion, pretty damn great as far as casting goes. We got a ton of e-mail about it today, but I wrote to Robbie Stamp, the film's producer, just to verify it 100% before running it. And sure enough... it's true!

And just so you know what I’m talking about, I’m referring to probably the single most important role that had yet to be announced for Disney’s upcoming THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY film. Stephen Fry will be playing the voice of The Guide, which is a pretty major role in the film. It’s deeply appropriate, because Fry was a close friend of Adams, and said one of the most astute things I’ve ever heard someone say in trying to sum up the popularity of these books:

“Douglas has in common with certain rare artists... the ability to make the beholder feel that he is addressing them and them alone; I think this in part explains the immense strength and fervor of the fan base.”

He was also the first person to write a tribute entry on the official site after Douglas died, which read:

"Oh Douglas -- your friends don't know what to think or say. You've left the party far, far too early. All those who knew you -- and that includes millions who never met you -- loved you. I can't think of anything more to write. Love, Stephen".

This is one of those projects where every single choice seems to be right on the money, and I can’t wait to hear Fry’s voice in Dolby 5.1 on May 6th when I settle into my seat for this one...

"Moriarty" out.
