News on PLANET ICE and a New York Disney celebration at the turn of the century!!!

Well Sir Moggy is back from Stay Tooned with another dish of animation fun. Boy I'd love to do that Disney Millenia deal, that would be incredible. You New Yorkers are in for a treat! Well here's the report...

Sir Moggy here again, from Stay Tooned Creations at http://www.staytooned.com (the one who sent you that POE image a few days ago) and I have yet another animated features report.

This time, it involves Fox's second animated feature, "Planet Ice." Famous animation directors, Don Bluth and Gary Goldman (who have both worked together on a number of titles, such as "An American Tale" and "Anastasia") have been slated to become the NEW directors for "Planet Ice." They were contracted to direct Fox's third, and unknown animated feature, but Fox recently dismissed Art Vitello (the original director) because Fox has been looking at doing the film digitally instead of traditionally with cels. Vitello obviously doesn't have the experience for this job, and I guess Fox feels more comfortable with the animation tagteam. Fox has already been working with New York based Blue Sky/VIFX and have found stunning results with the new technique. This isn't exactly GREAT news, because most people will agree by saying that Anastasia was a fair movie (with good animation) and Fox's main goal was to trick people into thinking this was yet another Disney feature. This is not to say having Vitello as the leader would make it better, because it wouldn't. In case you are unaware of what the films about, then here you go: the film is set in the future, after Earth was destoyed by an alien attack. The story is about an orphan boy who is given a mysterious treasure map and sets out on this incredible journey to unlock the secret of Hydra. The film is supposed to come out later next year, but because of all the recent changes, we may not be able to see Planet Ice until after the millenium.

You may be aware of this already, but I think a lot of people may not - and would enjoy to hear this. Its the Disney Millenium Celebration. THIS IS GONNA BE HUGE!!! AND DISNEY WILL SURELY MAKE A MINT OFF OF THIS! The celebration, which starts Thursday, November 15, 1999, is a 37 day countdown to the premiere of "Fantasia 2000" at the Radio City Music Hall, NY. Each day, Disney will screen every Disney featured film, starting with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in chronological order at selected theatres. Go to the following address (that I did) to view the complete schedule: http://www.staytooned.com/toonews/millenium.html Harry, this means you can see the lost Disney films like, "Melody Time, The Adventures of Icabod and Mr. Toad, Make Mine Music, and Fun and Fancy Tree" in the theatres! Ha ha!! You ought to go to the Fantasia 2000 premiere at Radio City Music Hall in NY - boy would that be a blast!

Signing off.
