A note on PREQUEL posters

The following letter from Lucas Films goes to ALL theaters that will be showing the Prequel in May. Its pretty harsh, aimed at stopping posters and other FREE stuff from getting into fan geeks hands. This is not normal for most films. Other movies like their posters to get passed around. Many actually GIVE posters away on a big scale, helping to promote the film, but George, ever mindful of profit has decided to make his posters near impossible to get for FREE! His various fan club fronts will no doubt be selling massively over printed copies. Hell, we'll probably even see mall displays of the posters for SALE. This is nothing new for him though, Father Geek remembers back in the late 70's he had agents attending comic conventions confiscating original release New Hope posters right and left. Thats why the original release posters are today many 100's of dollars on the collector's market while Star Trek, Superman and every other popular poster of that era are available at $15-$50 each. Oh well, Here's a copy of the Official letter to theater managers across the country...

Dear Exhibitor,

Enclosed are STAR WARS EPISODE 1 one-sheets for display in your theatre. These are the only one-sheets of this version you will receive. You will not be able to order additional one-sheets through our 800 number for this feature. Please make sure to display them in secured locations in your theatre. Twentieth Century Fox WILL NOT replace any stolen one- sheets.

If any of these one-sheets are damaged, and you wish to have them replaced, please ship the entire damaged quantity back to Twentieth Century Fox, [address removed]. Make sure to include the theatre manager's name, the theatre name, shipping address and phone number. We will ship your theatre replacement one-sheets once we have received the returned damaged material.

ONE-SHEETS SHOULD BE DISPLAYED IN THEATRES ONLY UNTIL JANUARY 14, 1999. ON THAT DATE, ALL ONE-SHEETS SHOULD BE TAKEN DOWN AND DESTROYED BY THEATRE MANAGEMENT.

The enclosed one-sheets are the property of Lucasfilm, Ltd. No sale, duplication, or other transfer is allowed.

BUMMER!!! Come on George give the fans a break. How much money do you need? Remember Louie the 15th. I remember when YOU were just a geek fan boy collector like the rest of us, running around collectible shows looking for the stuff you loved, can't you? ELIZABETH is giving away posters. SPAWN gave away posters, so did LOST IN SPACE, RUSH HOUR, MEET JOE BLACK, JACKIE BROWN, ALIEN 4, STARSHIP TROOPERS, ANTZ, VOLCANO, OPERATION CONDOR, DUSK TO DAWN, ARMAGEDDON, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, the list goes on and on. I've had FREE posters to MIGHTY JOE YOUNG for months now, and I've even gotten free posters (2 Styles) to PRINCE OF EGYPT.
