A closeup look at TREKKIES
Well geeks heres a report on TREKKIES that doco on the other Sci-fi cult, the one that started 10 years before STAR WARS. The one that turned a studio around and made them pay attention to the fans. Old FATHER GEEK here has spent many a day at TREK CONS back in the 70's and I had alot of fun and made some bucks. I am however not a Trekkie, although I am a fan. This film is a must for both...
Saw the film TREKKIES, last Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.
Have to say that I felt pretty bad if they were any die-hard
Trekkies in the theater because we laughed our asses off the
entire film. TREKKIES looks into the lives of people off in their
on little world.. or off in space at least.
The film was put together fairly well. Annoying as hell for
the first thirty minutes or so because it looked as if it was
shot in 16mm and converted to 35mm MEANING At times peoples heads
were chopped off as they talked.
Most of the people at the screenings (students, filmmakers
lawyers, yadda, yadda) agree that it's going to be a cult
classic for repeated party viewer.
A note to BEWARE THE SPINER FEMME when watching it. She'll give you
the creeps kind of and make you pray that they're isn't a HARRY FEMME
out there lurking about.
Overall the film was great. SEE IT. A bit draining for it only being
about 90 minutes but it was probably because we were giggling
at interviewees every three minutes.
From insane bidding for Klingon forehead pieces, a guy building
his own Christopher Pike wheelchair- BIG BLACK BOX then hitting
the streets with it!... And there's much more odd stuff.
There was a powerful moment though when Jimmy Doohan (Scotty
on Star Trek, of course) tells a life and death story of a desperate
woman.
The film also made me feel fortunate to have a life. Not to be
putting down people but to see it as Bill Shatner said
"Get it life! It's just a show!" and the whole bit about
kissing a girl and stuff.
I would say see it when you can. I believe most people would
get something from it.
I guess call me WHO?
desperate woman who
