Scum's review of EYES WIDE SHUT
So far, I have received only two reviews for EYES WIDE SHUT, The Juice's... and Scum's. It seems Scum has a large amount of pride in his writing, and a great deal of confidence. This is really wonderful. But his review seems to be tinged with an ever so slight dollop of ironic humor. There are some light spoilers, but overall he seemed to like it. I'll keep you folks atuned to how the word is on this film. That bloke in London loved it, TIME seems to have loved it.... We'll see. All I know is that I'm excited as hell that it's almost here. Now, here's Scum....
hi you guys,
sorry to bother you again. i'm sure you've gotten a bunch of responses from
people already who have seen "eyes wide shut"; and i'm sure their words and
experiences are a lot better than mine. so for some stupid reason, i
continue to type knowing full well you will not want to share my lame and
retarded experience with anyone else.
so i saw "eyes wide shut" today and i was excited before it began. i'm a big
stanley kubrick fan and have been looking forward to this for a long time;
also, i've been lucky enough to not know anything about this film beyond it
just starring those two famous married people.
as soon as it started and those big font letters came up, i got excited.
then, my excitement even grew more when stanley kubrick's name came up. cool.
just like i expected, i knew this would be a well crafted film. the shots
were amazingly lit and set up. he just likes to stay on one shot for a while
and it is so powerful how he uses that. anyways, that style kept my
attention for the first half while i waited for the story to shape up. i
knew it would, i have faith in him. about halfway through when the story
showed up, it appeared so strongly and gripingly. it had you (or at least it
had me). without giving away too much, i thought it was a really thoughtful
and well executed exploration into a person's thoughts about sex and
commitment. also, once i saw that the movie was real close to ending, i knew
i wasn't gonna be satisfied; but the last line in the movie (delivered by
that famous female of the married couple) really brought it all together.
even seemed to set a tone by being at the end of the film. i like this
movie. i don't think it's for the mainstream. but, i liked it and want to
see it again. i thought that that famous married couple man guy was really
good and his wife was okay too. i really liked sidney pollack as well. this
is a cool movie. i hope you don't mind me rambling; but then again, i guess
it doesn't matter since i suck and so does what i just wrote.
thanks for listening.
bye bye
