Robert Rodriguez to direct for HBO a remake of THE BRAIN EATERS

Hey folks, Harry here. Variety announced today a deal between Lou Arkoff (classic A.I.P. horror producing maniac and all around exploitation guru Samuel Z Arkoff's son) and HBO to buy 5 brand spanking new remakes of these classic horror films. In addition, Stan Winston and Colleen Camp are also on board as producers.

The only director that Variety lists is Robert Rodriguez, but they don't list which film title (they list titles: THE SHE CREATURE, HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER and THE BRAIN EATERS) Robert was to direct. Robert has long loved the title THE BRAIN EATERS and has long wanted to do a Zombie flick. This will be Robert Rodriguez's zombie flick.

This will be shot some time after SPY KIDS and hopefully before whatever the next major feature Robert has lined up. I know Robert was talking about a very fast.... 'Mariachi-style' shoot... and he wants to make a zombie film for hard core zombie fans. Given that it will be shown on HBO... I assume that it must fall beneath the rating of NC-17 (drats) but maybe I'm wrong there. Robert is a very big Zombie geek and personally... I can't wait to see a Rodriguez ZOMBIE film... even if it is for HBO. I really dig ROAD RACERS... which was Robert's other foray into tv production. Also... if memory serves, Stan's side of producing will be to provide something like a million bucks of special effects stuff. That's alot of chunks out of arms and spilt brains if you ask me!

Also... rumor has it that I might end up a victim of the zombie hordes... but that's just a rumor at this point
