Guillermo Del Toro to direct BLADE 2!!!

HELLO, HARRY HERE WITH AN UPDATE. I've noticed down below that people are just assuming that THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE will be a Catholic Bashing film. This is about as wrong as you could possibly get. Terrible things occur in this orphanage, but it is not at the hands of the Nuns, but... by other... things. Guillermo is a lifelong Catholic and could talk at length about every last chapter and verse. Just a bit of clarafication for you people that are casting the first stones.

Hey folks, Harry here with news that makes me very happy.

Guillermo Del Toro, director of CRONOS and MIMIC has finally settled on his next two projects. First will be THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, which will be a complete independent horror film based around children in a Catholic Orphanage in Spain. This has been a film that Del Toro has been wanting to film since before CRONOS, and will be an extremely personal project.

The movie will star Eduardo Noriega of ABRE LOS OJOS, Marisa Paredes of TODO SOBRE MI MADRE and Federico Luppi from Del Toro's own CRONOS. Guillermo has often told me that the last 15 minutes of this movie will undoubtedly make him a hunted man in many countries... as it is completely uncomprimising and offensive to all but only the sickest of sensibilities. Frankly, I love the early draft that I read. In early drafts, the film follows a young boy and the other children at a Catholic Orphanage as many rather terrible things occur. This is a brutal story about the world that the most unfortunate of children survive, and how they survive... if they survive at all.

Then after that film, Del Toro will direct BLADE: BLOODHUNT. Now, I've only had the most basic of conversations with Guillermo about BLADE: BLOODHUNT, I know that Wesley Snipes and David Goyer both loved his take on the script that Goyer wrote. Right now in Austin, Del Toro and Goyer are locking themselves up in a hotel and are basically making the film scarier and making the script and film... the T2 that it could be. Guillermo tells me that he's going to be studying the best damn Samurai sword fight scenes in film history. And that he wants to make Wesley's BLADE into a more dimensional character. Guillermo is very excited about getting to go from one film where it is a complete personal vision... a film of darkness... to movie where he can just let loose and have a shitload of fun. As for HELLBOY and LIST OF SEVEN and all of the rest. Only MONTECRISTO has been dropped from Guillermo's slate. If the God's are kind, he'll go straight from BLADE to HELLBOY... Keep your fingers crossed!
