And the villains that SPIDER-MAN will be combatting throw pumpkins and use tentacles!!!

Hey folks, over at Wizard World they've been squeezing down the toy folks and merchants that attended SONY's SPIDER-MAN product recruitment at UCLA the other day, and it turns out that there are three elements which look to be true. First, The Green Goblin will be in the movie. Second, Dr Octopus will be in the movie. And Third, Alex Ross has allegedly been approached about doing the character design work necessary for the film, though no agreement has been reached yet.

Alright! If this is where Raimi and crew are headed, then they are going in the exact right direction. Signing up Alex Ross would be the smartest thing Sony and Raimi have ever in their entire lives done. Alex Ross is the most cinematic minded comic artist I believe I have ever seen. He understands with every stroke of his paintbrush and pencil.... the placement of these heroes and villians in order to MAKE THEM REAL.

Notice the way this scene is "shot", it shows real people reacting to what is going on IN THEIR WORLD. In the BATMAN films, we ceased to ever see real people, to see the world reacting to the heroes. They were treated as... HO HUM, THERE'S BATMAN AGAIN. However, in SUPERMAN... that Pimp said the Keanu line! That cop said, "Be right with ya, I'm grabbin my hat!" SPIDER-MAN must be treated like this. When he lands on the side of a window on a High Rise and a bomb is thrown at him.... well, there are people in that high rise... and they are in danger.

Another thing Alex Ross brings to the table is the fact he can paint PHOTOREALISTIC people in SUPERHERO costumes and they don't look STUPID. Meaning that there is no need to turn the costumes into BLACK LEATHER.

The best news of all about this villian announcement is that the David Koepp draft that was based on the Cameron treatment has been scrapped! Now that doesn't mean they don't have a brand new terrible script, but it does mean it isn't the old hunkajunk, but at the very least a new hunkajunk. Also, I'd like to formally plead for real... mechanical... WEB SHOOTERS that Parker wears. WHY? This gives us fans and little kid fans a reason to buy WRISTSHOOTERS, plus it highlights Parker's remarkable scientific acumen and ingenuity. He's a geek, I accept he can make webshooters that work.
