Harrison Ford and the Open Slate

Big Breath... Harry here, and ya know... Ford seems to be alot like a greased pig at the moment... slipping through the fingers of every project that seems to come along. Ya know, here's a thought. Remember the earlier scoop about Dreamworks' THE TIME MACHINE? Wouldn't Harrison rock in that? I could believe him in that role. Heh... Ya know, I just don't know. I really really wish Harrison had signed aboard TRAFFIC, but I understand.... it's a scary hard role. It would force Ford to really work at his craft again and be pushed by a filmmaker to the best of his abilities. But it was a controversial role. I understand. With GEMINI MAN, the script was a perfect action/sci-fi script.. but I know if I were Harrison, I'd be edgy about signing on til a strong director was in place. As great sci-fi scripts can sometimes go great (ALIENS, TERMINATOR, MATRIX) and some times great sci-fi scripts can go terribly wrong (SOLDIER, EVENT HORIZON, WATERWORLD) when in the wrong hands. So... What will Harrison do next? I get the feeling that Ford knows he needs a gigantic film. I'm getting that vibe like he knows that he needs that SUPER SUCCESS to stay on top. I get the sense like he doesn't want it to be a sequel. And he doesn't want it to be something he's done before. And sometimes... these types of decisions, these quests... sometimes they take awhile. Here's Templer with the update...

Hi, Harry

.....Templer here from the newly built and the almost up & running Harrison Ford Headquarters

I hope you are doing well. I have a few thoughts and questions to throw at you here:

This morning I awoke to some startling & disturbing movie news about my favorite actor in the world. According to this morning's Hollywood Reporter, history's all-time worldwide box office draw Harrison Ford is turning down the latest script revisions for "The Sum of All Fears." My heart sunk when I read that.

It seems Mr. Ford met with director Philip Noyce recently to try to work out the problems that Mr. Ford saw with the script, and in the end decided to pass on this film adaptation of the Tom Clancy bestseller.

Now, no information was given as to whether the script will be tweaked some more to Harrison Ford's approval.

Jack Ryan film producer Mace Neufeld and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman have both stated recently that "The Sum of All Fears" is currently in preproduction and should be slated for filming sometime in the near future...possibly this upcoming summer...with a summer 2001 release set in mind. So, now, with Harrison Ford out, will they send the script back for more tweaking?

Oscar-nominated writer Paul Attanasio's ("Quiz Show," Donnie Brasco") script revision of Akiva Goldsman's The Sum of All Fears screenplay was the script that was recently completed and apparently the version that made Harrison Ford take a pass.

Here's what was said this morning at The Hollywood Reporter:

Ford won't take action on latest Clancy project

Harrison Ford has decided against reprising his role as Jack Ryan in Paramount Pictures' "The Sum of All Fears," a project Ford had been developing with director Philip Noyce based on the Tom Clancy book. Ford was in New York huddling with Noyce about the screenplay a few weeks ago, but the two couldn't agree on the script. The project would have reteamed Ford with Noyce and producer Mace Neufeld, the successful team behind "Clear and Present Danger" and "Patriot Games." Ford has yet to decide on his next project, but he is understood to be looking for an action role.

What are your thoughts about this Harry? The article says that Harrison hasn't decided what to make instead. Though, they state he is still going to make an action film his next feature. But, the legendary actor hasn't announced which one that might be...or when that film will be made. Could it be "Gemini?" I know you've mentioned recently that insiders were claiming Sean Connery might make that sci-fi / action film instead. But, do you think that there could still be chance for Harrison to make that film? That sounded like one awesome project for my lifelong big screen hero.

Other questions:

Could this mean finally there is a chance for "Indiana Jones 4?" I know, I know everyone's busy. Had to try to though.

And, will Harrison still play Jack Ryan ever again? I hope so. Jack Ryan is one of his most famous roles. Hopefully the script can be made to his liking. And then we can see top CIA operative back on the big screen maybe next year or later in the incarnation of Harrison Ford.

And speaking of next year...if Harrison is taking a pass at 'Fears,' and doesn't have anything officially set up, then, does this mean he will taking a year off? Man, that would suck big time. What the hell is going on here? MAN!

Hopefully we'll hear something really soon. I'm very restless. If no 'Fears,' then hopefully there could still be a chance for "Gemini!"

Please take care Harry.

Ps. "Harrison Ford Headquarters" will be moving to its own hosting server this July. The web address for the site will change & will be shorter in size as well. Maybe something like HarrisonFordHeadquarters.com . Any suggestions? Thanks. I'm new to this.
