What sort of automaton does that to anyone on Valentine's Day? EEEEk! Alright, sorry... had to vent. This is the film where Vin Diesel gets to be a badass racing dude. Now he has the most perfect name in the history of racing movies. The title kicks major ass.... And being a Vin fan (ok... what can I say, he came to my birthday and is the voice of the Iron Giant) I'm really hoping that this is a classic fun drag movie. The trailer makes me laugh.... the sheer testosterone is classic. But finding out that Michelle Rodriguez is in it.... Well that made me really rev to see it. I hope it doesn't suck! i'm a HUGE fan of the site. i've been coming here everyday for the past 9 months to hear supercool movie news and info. it started off as just looking for xmen movie shit but turned into me loving the site. anyways let me start off by saying my gf dumped me today. she said things were moving too fast. i'm kinda down so i hope the talkback people will go a little easier on me. and it sucks being dumped on valentines'. sigh. ahem moving on.
last night me and two of my friends saw an advanced screening of "the fast and the furious" at our local AMC barrywoods 24 in kc, mo. i'm sure you know but this is that car chase flick starring vin diesal, paul walker, michelle rodriguiz, and jordana brewster. well first off i'll say this movie is 10 FUCKING TIMES BETTER THAN GONE IN 60 SECONDS. i felt i had to say that up front because that's what this flick is gonna be compared to the most.
now is this a great movie ? no. is it good? no. is it okay? yes, it's VERY OKAY. it is loaded with admittedly very exciting car chase sequences. and it's very loud and action packed so your average idiot is gonna think it's the coolest shit they ever saw. BUT, the plot is substitituded for the action.
the very loose plot centers around diesal's gang of outlawish car racers (brewster who plays his sister, rodriguiz his girlfriend, etc) who on the side have been carjacking stolen dvd players and vcr's and other assorted goods. paul walker stars as the undercover cop who falls for brewster and aims to put them away.
this movie also features several other racing gangs including a spanish one led by a character named hector and an asian one led by one called johny tran. these characters don't serve much a purpose other than to give the main characters people to race against and in some scenes throw down with.
i liked this movie okay. my fave part is when they have this truck get highjacked by vin and crew during the last half hour or so. the worst part? THE ENDING. i'm not gonna say how it ends but it is EXTREMELY ANTICLIMATIC. if your someone who actually wants any kind of plot or closure to an ending. you will hate the ending. but if your like the audience i was in you won't give a flying fuck by the end of it.
Alot of people have been wondering if this is the film that will make vin diesal a star? maybe. it all depends on who the media decides should get top billing. if they chose to go with him he will BUT they could also chose to call this paul walker's flick which could seriously hurt vin's chances.
by the way thought ya'd like to know i'mputting myself at risk by writing this review cause they made us take surveys and sign a form that said we wouldnt' be all over the net with this shit. oh well
overall this was a fairly entertaining flick. if your an idiot and you loved gone in 60 seconds you'll love this even more. if your someone who cares about plots but can occasionlly view something just for fun, you'll find this movie generally entertaining.
one more note. i got high for the first time, two hours before the movie. i felt bad about it and will never do it again cause i was very incoherent. but by the time the movie started, i was normal again. so dont' worry this review is legit.
