An A.I. movie update!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... I decided to split Alexandra DuPont's stories up onto 2 pages, so they could have their own individual talkbacks... As A.I. and Spider-Man (Yes Alexandra it does have the minus-thingee) both have radically different fan bases... and I had additional material for both.... First here's 503-321-5122 --- aka Mother's Phone in MP3 format thanks to CSL... this should save some of you some phone bills... and for those of you that want to know why the A.I. mystery thing is fun... Listen to the phone call... follow up on it... and tell me you don't like it. If you don't.... fine, but for me... it conjurs some powerful imagery and I can't wait to see that in action on the screen... Doesn't sound like Pinnochio to me... Here's the beautiful Alexandra DuPont....

Harry. Assorted gentlemen. Alexandra DuPont here. Couple of things:

I. SOMEWHAT OLDISH NEWS: AN "A.I." SCORING-SESSION REPORT, WITH INTRIGUING SPOILER

Given the current rage for all things "A.I." and my own personal obsession over all things John Williams, I thought I'd point readers to a recent post at the excellent John Williams Central (John Williams Central Site). In it, Edward Trybek describes the Wednesday, March 14 recording session of the "A.I." score -- and there's a wee scene spoiler describing a moment that sounds alarmingly "Waterworld"-ish. Here's the post:

***** BEGIN SNIPPET *****

I was at the recording session today and I thought you might be interested to know that the music is INCREDIBLE!!! The session went very smoothly and Spielberg seemed to be very happy with the music. The snippets of the movie that I saw also looked pretty good, although there were some scenes that still had blue screens in them. The album is most likely going to be released by Warner-Sunset or one of the other Warner labels, but I wasn't able to get an exact date.

They recorded 7 cues, Including the opening end credits and a vocal end credits. The music was melancholy but not overly sappy. Some of the people in the studio claimed that they had tears in their eyes but personally the music pulled me into the scenes completely. I have a copy of the cue sheet and apparently some of the cues have a chorus and orchestra, but I'm not sure if those cues will be on the CD. There was a soprano soloist, Barbara Booney, in the studio and she was singing/humming a wordless melody on a couple of the cues. There is also some source music that Williams recorded -- the song "I Only Have Eyes For You." However, I overheard Williams and Spielberg mentioning that they may not use the song so it might not be in the movie. Since half of the cues they recorded were cues intended for the end credits they didn't play that much video but they did play what looked like an underwater scene. There's the boy and he is in an underwater craft of some kind and he finds a statue that obviously has some significance. I don't really know if I can say anymore, but I hope it's enough.

The AI cue sheet shows that almost, if not a little over, 2 hours of music was recorded.

***** END SNIPPET *****

Personally, I can't wait to buy this soundtrack, provided Williams doesn't splice it to hell while rearranging it for the CD. BTW, you can read all sorts of related "A.I." music news at

That is all.

Warmest,

Alexandra DuPont.
