PEARL HARBOR: New Commercial; Newsweek Cover Story & Review!

Greetings, citizens! ROBOGEEK here with a couple updates on the PEARL HARBOR front.

Monday night, I happened to catch the latest (third) TV commercial for PEARL HARBOR. It's as evocative as the others have been, and includes several new shots, as well as actual score from the film. I can't help it; as a marketing geek, I love these sumptuous TITANIC-esque spots - and just hope this movie is as good as they make it look.

Anyway, I digitized this latest spot into a quick-and-dirty 320x240 2.9 MB QuickTime file, and you can grab it for yourself at THIS LINK! (If you have a Mac, just drag-and-drop the link to your desktop to download.)

(BTW, you can still find our copy of the first commercial here - though why these gorgeous spots haven't been officially released online, I have no idea.)

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the web, NEWSWEEK snagged an exclusive this week with their big-ass PEARL HARBOR cover story by John Horn, which offers an intermittently fascinating look at the making of the film, which they declare "the most anticipated film of the summer." (They'd better hope it is, since they've put it on their cover.) Sidebar items include short, fluffy interviews with stars Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett. Ah, Kate...

Finally, there's the review by David Ansen, who seems to be the first "real" critic to review the film (though, I presume, in unfinished form). He says, "Hollywood movies don't get more Hollywood than PEARL HARBOR" - which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on how you choose to look at it. (Ansen chooses to pepper his review with obligatory anti-Bay/Bruckheimer potshots.) Ultimately, though, he concedes what we already know: "Superbly marketed, PEARL HARBOR is the very model of a modern blockbuster."

Well, I'm certainly glad that's settled.

Sleeping more soundly,

- Robogeek
