REIGN OF FIRE tidbits from the emerald isle...

Hey folks, Harry here... For me, the big question about RING OF FIRE is: How does the dragon look? Seriously, Dragon movies live and die by how cool their dragons are... (oh yeah, script, acting, score, quality of effects, sound editing, cinematography, costuming, etc... that helps too) I guess we'll probably see a teaser for this movie on and around HARRY POTTER or LORD OF THE RINGS, since it is due for next summer. Read on....

Hi Harry

Got a bit of sus for you on Disneys Reign of Fire. On Sunday there was an article in the Sunday Business Post (a business broadsheet for Ireland). There was a photo too, from the set, of the main cast. A bearded Christian Bale (who my missus has a thing for), Izabella Scorupco (who I could very much have a thing for) and Mathew McConaughey (not a thing in sight). Anyway the article is by Christine Doherty and talks mainly about the money side of things, as you'ld expect from a business newspaper. The producer Neil Dowd has so far spent $40 million in ten months on the movie which has been filmed here, around the Sally Gap area of Wicklow. Minds out of the gutter boys! It also goes on to give a brief idea of the movies story. Set in 2030 it's a post-apocalyptic adventure story set in a world where survivors battle against dragons.

Apparently Disney are planning it as their big release next year and it has been made in partnership with Spyglass Entertainment and an Irish company called World 2000.

The five sets for the movie here cost $8 million and Dowd talks about the "trick-down effect" it has on the Irish movie business.

The movie is described as a cross between Mad Max, Braveheart (with much of the crew also having worked on that movie), the X-Files (due to Rob Bowman I suppose) and Dragonheart. The movie also includes a 300 foot digital dragon - thankfully without the voice of Sean Connery.

Anyway hope this is something you can use.

Malcolm
