Interview tidbits with Tim Burton

Hey folks, Harry here... Here's a few comments of interest from Tim Burton... The most interesting part of all of this is the unfortunate Kevin Smith/Tim Burton thing... Of course any and all celebrities should know when talking to the New York Post never to attempt dry sarcastic humor, because they'll report it as factual statements... Ugh. Here ya go...

Hi Harry

I don't know if what I've got is news to you but I just did an interview with Tim Burton and asked him about Superman and Kevin Smith and other stuff and I thought you might be interested. It's transcribed as closely as makes sense - he tends to ramble a bit.

Mark Wahlberg has said he'd do a POTA sequel if you did - are you contemplating it? "No, I'm not contemplating it, I'm contemplating jumping out of the window right now, that's what I'm contemplating. It's like, when you finish a film it's like the worst time to think of that, it's almost the last thing you want to do, really, at that moment." So do you have your eye on any particular projects at all? There are rumours attaching you to a Catwoman movie, a Beetlejuice sequel, a re-make of [Roger Corman's] 'The Man With The X-Ray Eyes'... "Geez, I'd better get started, huh? I've got a lot to do. No. Honestly, for me I really can't even think about a project while I'm still working on - even this [interview] is still working on, thinking about it, still there. So, I kind of have to break up with this one [laughs], y'know, before I can start a new relationship, really. You know what I mean? And you're kind of exhausted, so you're not at your most, sort of, creatively there. Like, when you can't put your shoes on the right foot it's hard to deecide what project you're going to do next."

Is your documentary 'Conversations With Vincent' likely to be completed soon? "I haven't looked at it in a while but I would like to but I think that here again there's been a lot of time and I think that I need to revisit it. I would like to, some time, do it, yeah, but I think I actually now have to look at it in a different context somehow so, because I would like to because it's some of the last footage of him and I think that would be, in some form, get it out there.

Are you disappointed that Wolfgang Petersen is now slated to direct the Superman revival you had been working on? "Good luck to him" Rumours are that he's approaching John Travolta to star where you intended to cast Nicolas Cage; can you envisage him as Superman? "Good luck. I mean, it was painful. I mean, I worked on it for a year and it was...those kind of experiences are kind of like an elephant, you don't quite forget those, and that was excruciatingly painful, really. I think it was a matter of lots of things, not logistics so much as probably cost and just studio politics at the time and, you know, I think probably because I had a couple of failures, perhaps... I think I've always had a somewhat uneasy alliance with the studios, I somehow kind of surprised them somehow and they don't ever quite get it, then, when you have a failure, then it kind of confirms their suspicions about you, y'know, like 'Yeah, he is a weirdo...out of control [laughs]...loser', so I think there's a lot of dynmaics that probably go into what their decisions are. There were some evil people involved. Life's too short."

Kevin Smith has now said he was only joking about you stealing the ending of the film... "Joking!" Were you in on this? "No, I was not in on this joke. I guess that's the kind of joke that doesn't have a punchline. [Laughs. Eventually]"

Call me E-Mo if you run it. Cheers!
