LAND OF THE LOST movie news'
Alrighty folks this officially qualifies as weird as hell. In a million years I never thought I would be talking about a LAND OF THE LOST feature film, but because of this CINEFANTASTIQUE story.... well here I am. I remember being absolutely addicted to the tv series as a kid, and when I look back upon those years... well all I can remember is the groovy theme.... Folks keep me in mind should you hear anything else on this one...
Anyway, you may have heard this before or may not even be interested for all
I
know but FYI, the latest issue of Cinefantastique has a brief update on the
Land of the Lost film. It seems creators Sid and Marty Krofft have wrestled
the Land of the Lost movie rights away from Disney, and have raised finances
themselves to make the film, presumably independently, although the article
didn't say if a new studio is involved or if they're shopping it around.
The
Krofft bros. are now working with Adam Rifkin, who co-wrote Small Soldiers,
on
the screenplay, and claim to be in "active preproduction." They say the
film
won't be heavy CGI, but rather, a combination of FX techniques, and that the
story will be more faithful to the original 70's show than the crappy 90's
remake, and will include the Marshall family and the Sleestaks.
Do you have any confirming info on this project, Harry? The legions of LotL
fans would like to know. Sure, the show was cheesy, but in a good way, and
stands apart from other 70's kiddie shows because of the complex writing of
SF
novelists such as Larry Niven, and story editing by Star Trek's David
Gerrold.
Small Soldiers was kind of a mess, so is this project doomed to failure? If
the Krofft bros. can get Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write H.R.
Pufnstuf why can't they get a high caliber writer for their all-time most
popular show?
Anyway, Harry, just wanted to let you know there is interest out here for
this
film, if you hear anything.
Thanks.
