Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, I love the FRIDAY THE 13TH films. Yes, love. Even the shitty ones. I'm sure most of it has to do with nostalgia, but I can't help it. I grew up a Freddy and Jason kid (although I always dressed up as Freddy for Halloween).

That said, I'm not really upset about a FRIDAY THE 13TH remake. He's not like Michael Myers or Freddy Kruger. It's not too hard to fuck up Jason. Give him a machete, show us some hot teenagers fucking... give us some boobs and bush and then bring in the blood.

Sure, I'd like to see the remake keep the more cartoony aspects of Jason as a character out of the remake, but from the choice of writers I'm not too sure that's what we'll get. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are on-board now. They wrote FREDDY VS. JASON, which I liked. Was it the ideal movie for the premise? I don't know about that, but I do know they did a better job than any of the half-dozen scripted attempts to do it the 10 years the flick languished in development hell.

I will say I have had many conversations with fellow Jason nerds (you know who you are, AJ) about how they didn't get the character of Jason... suddenly making him afraid of water when he's not shown a fear of water for 9 movies... including scenes where he walks directly into Crystal Lake to secure his kills.

I guess now's their chance to bring that into the mythology if they're scripting a reimagining.

However, I would much rather see them do a sequel than a remake. It's not like they have to worry about continuity. Just put him back in the woods and give us a fun flick that pretends he never went to space or fought a dream demon.

I don't know if Jonathan Liebesman is still directing, but Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing the remake through Platinum Dunes. They've made it abundantly clear that Jason will be front and center, which means Mrs. Voorhees gets to take a backseat. Crystal Lake will be the setting, naturally.

Like I said above... I don't take an immediate hatred to this, but that's not to say I'm anticipating it. DAWN OF THE DEAD and HALLOWEEN are masterpieces in their field with intricate character work that they don't often get credit for. The FRIDAYS... not so much. I'd argue the masterpiece status as they definitely defined the genre for a decade and spawned one of the most memorable icons of horror since the classic Universal days, but the focus has always been on the exploitation and the fun. If I can get that out of the remake, then I'll be happy. I wish Damon and Mark well. I hope they hit it out of the park.
