Hey folks, Harry here... sore as hell and feeling the burn - but here at my post doing the job. Tonight there's a new IRON MAN clip online in HD and QUICKTIME - and I'm using it as an excuse to share. When I was at SKYWALKER RANCH - I had to stop by and visit with my ex-director of JOHN CARTER OF MARS - Jon Favreau and wish him well on IRON MAN and... well... see what I could see. He was mixing on the Akira Kurosawa stage at Skywalker Sound - which had great posters for a few Kurosawa films - but also a French 2-sheet for the silent LOST WORLD. Really magnificent poster. Wish I had a picture... or had stolen it... but that's just one of many items that I wanted to steal. Fuck it, I'd pull up a large U-Haul to that place. Damn it rocks - and I will write about it all when I calm down from all this life shit that's plaguing me.
Anyway - Favreau showed me the footage that was shown at WONDER CON that weekend and that last full length trailer... but the real show was barely in my site from my seat... what was that? The mixing going on - in the room that we had a window to. They were mixing the Mark 1 fight and escape from the cave and the "terrorists?" Some of the pictures that have recently appeared online of that scene are frames out of a sequence that just freaking looked amazing in motion... for the brief seconds I saw. We mainly talked about REPULSORS... they're a big deal for me. Jon doesn't want to overuse them in this first film... but he assures they're in there... but at the time I was at Skywalker - they had yet to clearly create "the sound of a REPULSOR ray." Personally - in my monkey mind - I always imagined they sounded a bit like the Martian War Machine ray from George Pal's WAR OF THE WORLDS... at least when I read the comics... that's what I wanted it to sound like as a kid.
Anyway - wanted to share that little bit - like I said - I was only there for about twenty minutes - but one of the scenes I saw has just been released. And it looks real damn cool! Sure, I may have worked a bit with Favreau on our project, but I actually had a reason to really not like this film, as Jon's signing onto IRON MAN - kinda gave Gail Berman the permission to kill JOHN CARTER... but dude... I can't blame Jon... it's fucking IRON MAN! And the thing is... the shit load of work that he was overseeing on JCOM - told me that he was ready to step up and annihilate geek ass on a massive scale, and that's exactly what this IRON MAN looks like. This movie looks like geek paradise. I just wish the pointed mask (TALES OF SUSPENSE 50 - which I believe also intro'd the Mandarin)
