Joss Whedon reports on his website that “Angel” icon Amy Acker (“Alias” “Drive”) has been cast in Whedon’s coming Fox series “Dollhouse” as Dr. Claire Saunders.

Whedon tells Ain't It Cool the role is recurring in nature.

Acker joins the project alongside a number of “Angel” vets, including writer-producers Whedon, Tim Minear, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, as well as “Dollhouse” lead Eliza Dushku – who played Faith on both “Angel” and “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.”

The series, which hits Fox next season, is about secret agents who are programmed with memories and personalities for their missions but have no memories or personalities of their own. Until one of the agents, Echo, somehow grows some.

Olivia Williams (“The Sixth Sense”), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”), Fran Krantz (“Welcome to the Captain”), and Harry Lennix (the “Matrix” sequels) are also in the cast.

Dushku plays Echo. All the blank-slate Dollhouse agents have Whiskey Tango Foxtrot phonetic alphabet names. Dichen Lachman (“Aquamarine”) plays Sierra. Enver Gjokaj (the TV-movie “The Path to 9/11”) plays Victor. Miracle Laurie (“Medical Investigation”) plays November.
