is so great. They really captured lightening in a bottle. Even though Carell is the "star", the show would be nothing without, well hell everybody else. And I love Jenna Fisher, a terrific comedic actress. She was terrific in "Walk Hard" as well.I'm sure the other twelve people who paid money to see that movie would agree.

This one was good, not as good as making Dwight hit himself in the face with his phone. Remember, he put nickels in his phone a little at a time until Dwight got used to the weight. Then one day, he took the nickels out.

safe, sitcom-funny isn't really funny... the best humor is the most bitingly realistic, which usually involves some amount of squirming. Humor is just tragedy seen through a different lens.

comedy out of sadness, awkwardness and despair is the hallark of the office, from the british version forward. This season has actually come the closest to matching the brilliance of the original, in my opinion.

A foil for the leads, but has so much endearing (yet brutish nerdom) qualities that he transcends just being the "butt of a prank." In fact, sometimes it is just mean to begin a prank without establishing a "Dwight is being a jerk" scene. (By the way, "I shall go to New Zealand and walk the trail to Mordor.")

The time I really noticed Dwight was Burns-like was when Angela was encouraging him to replace their inept "commander", Michael. Very much a Frank/Margaret relationship.

But Dwight has more good qualities than Frank did. Usually, Dwight is very loyal to Michael, ignoring the fact that it's really strange and creepy that he does. He stopped Roy's attack on Jim, he protected Angela when she was in trouble, he even comforted Pam when she was crying. He may have blamed it on her period, but it still counts.

Good call on that. But Office is better in that their Agenda is a lot more subtle, and the bad guys usually have some redeeming qualities.

I put this paragraph break to call attention to the fact that I learned how to insert a paragraph break.

And to those who think the show isn't any good, I say go watch "The Dinner Party" again. That's the best ep of the entire series.

I can't make up my mind how I feel about this one. Ryan finally went down, the Jan reveal elicited an out loud "Holy shit!" and the close with Dwight and Angela was great, but Michael and Jim both got the shaft and it pissed me off royally. I refuse to believe we've seen the last of Toby. Annnnd I'm rambling. Oh well.

Then it all went downhill from there. If the end was better, this seriously might have been the best episode ever. It had so many funny parts. Kevin being "special" was gold. Such crap that Jim didn't get to propose and that Michael wussed out going to dinner with the new HR chick. Seriously ruined the episode. The dwight and angela part made it a little better, but not by much. My least favorite season by far. Of course I'll watch next season though :)

06:24:59 AM
The best part of the episode was Dwight saying to the camera "You know, it's my own fault". It was touching and poetic. That is the first time, that I can remember, Wilson not playing it comedic at all. Even when he and Angela broke up Dwight's crying was kinda funny.

I bet Toby takes Ryan's job. But what's going to happen to Ryan. Are they gonna write the character out of the show? Even though Novak is a big part of the writing staff? And Amy Ryan? She was adorable and fun tonight, but is a recently Oscar nominated actress really going to join a sitcom? Don't get me wrong, I think it would be a good choice, but unconventional.

And was it me, or did the writers build up this incredible amount of tension throughout the entire episode? I mean it wasn't obvious that they were trying to do it, but by the end, my stomach was in knots. The tension in this episode put most Hollywood thrillers to shame.

The bits were funny and I actually cared about what was happening with the characters. Retarded Kevin was one of the funniest bits ever, and Phyllis' expressions, particularly when she was asked to be the party planner were hysterical. You know the sadder parts (Michael back with Jan, and Jim not getting to propose) will be rectified at some point, so they didn't bother me that much. I just hope they don't wuss out on Jim's proposal and have something better planned down the line. He has it in his mind to do it really well, and I think it would go against the character if he didn't find a way to top the fireworks attempt.
Michael better hook up with Holly next season!

I like the fact that this episode, while still making Michael a buffoon, made his desperate affection for the Amy Ryan character believable. All the moreso because she meshed well with Michael. Loved when he shorted himself in mid sentence "Thats what she s---". And mentally challenged Kevin was priceless. Loved the wave from the car as he headed to the store. Best Office season ender so far.

by BizarroJerry
May 16th, 2008
05:03:00 PM
The ending, anyway. I hate the non-proposal cuz it's just a setup for strained relationship bullshit down the road. Michael missing the boat with Holly was just too much. I hope that isn't the end of it though. I like Amy Ryan and would like to see her stick around. I would've liked it if Michael realized she was basically asking him out, but after she and Kevin decided to go. The last scene could have been the most awkward date ever, with Kevin thinking Michale was the third wheel.

On another note, I wish I had posted in another talkback my prediction that Toby's replacement would be someone Michael really likes, and that maybe she'd be kinda like him. I know it doesn't count cuz I didn't share it. But, long ago I predicted Dwight would save Jim from Roy's attack. I seem to have a knack for seeing where this show is gonna go...

And if Michael was real, and I knew Michael, he would be getting a swift kick in the balls just to remind him that he has a pair. The whole Michael/Jan having a kid thing is beyond fucked-up. It's sorta funny, but way more troubling. I hope the series manages to drop that whole story line.
Michael/Jan thing
by INWOsuxRED

is obviously the point where Michael will redeem himself. David told off the british version of Todd Packer as his turning point, but I see Michael dumping Jan and ending up with Toby's replacement as the way he makes up for being such an ass. It was also interesting to note that Jim getting out of his funk and working towards helping Michael(and Michael taking the advice) that there is a chance Michael will become a Jim, instead of Jim becoming a Michael.
