I mean, I love him, but besides Hellboy and The Beauty & The Beast more than 20 years ago, he didn'T do anything that caught the attention of the public. He is unfortunately still caught in DTV-Hell. But I hear from many people that he is still one of the nicest guys in business. (Of course I haven't met him.)

I heard he is a dick talk. Honestly, never heard that regarding Perlman before, and the fact he has worked with several directors more than once(i.e. Del Toro, four times now and Juenet twice) makes me doubt this. Also, he seems to be pretty candid whenever he is interviewed or spoken to.

Was it Mori who ran into him on the set of that Uwe Boll debacle and he commented "What can I say, my wife loves her shoes!"

That was fuckin' great ;)

ummm, he may have some movies that go that route but he's constantly and consistently making theatrical movies. sure they arent all big or he isnt always a main character but yeah, he's far from being stuck there. it seems that Perlman is always working. Yes, there is alot that's a bit part or voicework, but this guy seems to be very un-pretentious and just loves to work. And his wife loves her shoes. He has something like 17 unreleased movies currently out there in some state of completion, post-production or production and that's not counting all the animated stuff he is doing work for, or the video games. It's sort of neat that while you might see him in Primal Scream (the baboon flick) on Sci-Fi at 2 a.m. you are just as likely to catch his voice on the Batman animated series or headlining the big summer comic book sequel. He seems to have little delusion about what he does, and as such seems to have fun whether stretching his talents in art(City of Lost Children, Cronos) or fighting off the latest cgi blobby the Sci-Fi channel guys are passing off as a giant rat or snake or snake rat.

It's a pretty decent flick actually and Perlman adds alot to the atmosphere. His character is the kind of thing that might inspire those "dick" comments, but Perlman plays the guy always on the edge of being approachable or decent or hard-edged and dangerous. It's well worth seeing, and a somewhat continuation of the Wendigo mythology that Fessenden explored in "Wendigo" albeit taken in a different direction.

This is a very clever ad campaign. As excited as I am about the new movie, up until now the ads haven't been enough to draw in the unconverted. Hopefully that is about to change.

On a side note, I'm very liberal on most issues, but I thought Scalia's judgment on gun control (whose opinions are almost always unbearable and sometimes contradictory) was a good one from a legislative point of view. It might be a little iffy as far as a Constitutional interpretation. I believe in some gun control but have no problem with law abiding citizens defending themselves and hunting.

My mom was big into Beauty and the Beast conventions back in the day and she's met the whole cast at one point or another: Perlman, Roy Dotrice, Armin Shimmerman, etc. She says they're all pretty down to earth. Ron doesn't like the screaming fangirl approach, but if you treat him like a normal guy he's apparently super-cool. Linda Hamilton never went to one of those things though. And it pleases me to see all the Name of the Rose and Quest for Fire love. I can't get enough of those movies.

A few years back while hyping the first HB movie i stumbled upon a Perlman signing in NYC at one of the big comic book stores. I waited in line for three hours and was one of the last people in line. He was only supposed to sign for two hours but wanted to make sure every fan got a handshake and an autograph. When i finally got to meet him his hand was like a limp fish from signing a few hundred autographs but he still smiled, shook my hand, and signed the sketch of Hellboy i drew while waiting in line for so long. He's tops in my book!

I love the guy just based on everything I've seen and read about him so far. He seems to really be coming into his own as a respected filmmaker who is hopefully given the freedom he's earned with such amazing movies like Pan's Labyrinth. The other thing is, to me, I really liked Hellboy but I felt like someone messed with him on it. I was honestly surprised to see another Hellboy movie made, but I'm glad it got made. Del Toro is a fricking genius and I feel lucky to be able to watch his movies. The fact he was given the keys to The Hobbit was awesome and I just can't wait to see what he does with it. I actually feel like he could make a better Rings movie than Peter Jackson and I hope they give him creative freedom to make it into his own versus just simply a companion piece to Jackson's trilogy.

Never seen it before. Kind of like the ones on TBS that people call in and see if a situation is considered funny. This time Hellboy calls and wants to find out about if his relationship with Liz is good. Good stuff.

And I can attest to the fact that the man is not as you put it a "dick". He's a really nice and very unassuming guy. I'm a photographer. I shot on him on assignment about a year and half ago. He was actually shocked that my assistants and I were fans of his. So before you come on a public forum, unless you've been in the person's presence you might want to think twice before using the "D" word. Or were you just falling into the typical AICN be an ass on the internet decorum? If so please pardon my attempt to enlighten you.
Wasn't that E A T M E line the first thing said in the movie/

I don't know if the movie was discussed on the show or if he told this story, but here's a funny tidbit Perlman story from "Alien: Resurrection." In the scene where Ripley makes that incredible throw with the basketball, Sigourney Weaver nailed it on only the second take. Perlman immediately exploded (in the good way, not the "I'm a dick" way), nearly ruining the take. If you watch the movie, there's a cut right after the ball goes through to Johner's silent stunned face. They clearly had to piece that together, but not for a bad reason. I guess he was just psyched she pulled it off. I read this, I think, in a book about the series. Anyway, he was one of the best parts of that flick. "I can't believe I almost fucked ya." I hope "Hellboy II" is a big hit for him. But I don't know; the first one didn't make big-time money in the U.S. Hope it's not another "Chronicles of Riddick" situation. Looks awesome from what I've seen...

I give credit where credit is due. Good for you for owning a gun. And to be fair, I hate self-absorbed, fascist conservatives just as much. Quantize, I did it tongue in cheek. Relax and go back to drinking your soy-infused mocha latte while reading Camus at the local cafe.

not sure if this was the same or he was there twice but during the "Jason Goes to Hell" promotion...he was on the show and just stood with the band and looked menacing. the only thing i remember is him trying to play the keyboard with his machete.

You and I have gone at it before in these forums, and I truly have a healthy respect for you, but did you read my post above before you joined in? I live and work in LA, and I happen to hear a lot of what the big names are saying when there are no shows or events or media listening in. You know, when they are at their most honest. But like I also said above -- perhaps he was having a bad day; it happens.
This clip made my day.

You can't ask for a better person so willing to make fun of himself for our pleasure. Arrested Development, Conan O'Brian, his interview with "himself". The guy loves being a punching bag and he's good at it. Give him more.
Haha very nice

I mean, if you want me to bitch and moan to comply to your stupid stereotype, I'm willing to oblige. Cuz I'm a nice guy. Meanwhile, shut the fuck up. Oh, and Hellboy's gun is cool. As are the thousands of guns in any given classic John Woo movie. Hey, I can enjoy the aesthetics of a gunfight and still believe the average asshole shouldn't be packing heat...

my fave line from the esteemed mr. perlman, _blade 2_, un film de del toro. i read that shock cinema interview, too, and he certainly did sound down to earth and rather delighted by his unique career. his praise and gratitude for guillermo seemed to say it all: evidently, _hellboy 1_ was held up for years because producers could not convince g.d.t. to put someone other than ron through the full-body red make-up and sawed-off horns shtick. c'mon, talk about someone born for the part! overall, it's cool to have some good roles for the enormously underrated ron p. -- i think we haven't seen half of he's capable of onscreen. (oh, and selma blair will be mine. yes. she will be mine...)

Anyone else think he would have made the Mummy movies 10x more watchable? I think its time to revive the Alan Quartermaine franchise with Perlman in the iconic role.

Okay, maybe I'm crazy and made this up in my head, but does anyone else remember Perlman doing Pam cooking spray commercials in the late 80s? I swear I remember him eating a grilled green pepper in one of the ads...
