Pretty boring.
Hopefully the entertainment is in the writing, and not in the overall episode?

Maybe if they do it four more times one day it will be funny? Anyway, they always suck up to their guest stars for whatever reason. So it's only natural they would also start letting them write too. There's 0 quality control for about 10 years now. They don't really need to try at all at this point. People will watch anyway.

Whats not to love! You people even talk shit on short little plotlines?! You guys are nuts!! Sometimes I think talkbackers just have to be negative about EVERYTHING!! if you haven't watched it in eight years, how would you know the quality? either you're psychic, lying, relying on other peoples' opinions, basing huge generalizations on commercials you see in passing, or spouting off at the mouth about a subject you know jackshit about. And yes, Rufferto, people will watch anyway. You don't have to. move along to another show you don't despise so and stop worrying about it. Sheesh. Some people are only happy when they can bitch about something.

I hope that isn't what he sounds like in real life. And the joke with Daniel Clowes fell flat. Having him want to do Batman was a bit on the nose. A better joke would have featured him creating a superhero no sane person would possibly like. Of course that was already done to death in The Tick. Mucilage Man anyone?

during the last few months. Damn it's a good show. But also the transition from oldsimpsons to newsimpsons is not that shocking this way. There's some funny shit in all of the seasons I tell you. And how can someone hate the Simpsons movie is beyond me. Maybe if it was ten years since they saw an episode.

There's something we can agree on...Nah, you're alright. To be fair I have a lot of love for the Simpsons. It had a golden age, then a silver age, but now we're in the age of lead. It relies to much on randomness and a tone that twangs about like a rubber band. I'd love to see them do an episode where nothing unnatural or bizarre happens, just to see if they still could.

I:

-love the simpsons
-have a good sense of humor
-have watched the Simpsons faithfully
-have a pretty big penis (OK, that last one was for me, but I spend a lot of time in the AICN talkbacks and I have to make sure the ladies know I'm packin!)

and I didn't like the movie at ALL!!!
there were some funny moments, but here is my gripe: if you're gonna do it, do it RIGHT. the movie is 90 minutes, so it at LEAST has to be as funny as 3 Simpsons episodes back to back. and it wasn't. at all.

push the god damn envelope! it'sa movie, go crazy! I wanted to see some REALLY funny stuff, and instead I got a sort of weird and not as funny version of the show on FOX.

oh good, they keep giving Seth Rogen more work!

I love that the guy bitches (with ample justification) about Hollywood fucking up his stuff, but has no problem appearing in a once-beloved TV show that's now well past its sell-by date.

Also, ain't the guy supposed to be a recluse somewhere in Northamptonshire? I guess he literally phoned it in.

even for something as the movie they still couldnt get that style of humor during the 90's era that they had. Even though it was really witty with crap like spiderpig and all, it's still the 2000's simpsons form of humor, which is totally different and utterly worse than the 90's era.

Was when Bart sold his soul. Arguably, it's been all downhill from there but downhill for the Simpson's is still miles above the competition. While there are more stinker episodes these days, they still have plenty good ones. And I really enjoyed the Simpson's Movie. It just needed more Frink. Of course, the Simpson's always needs more Frink.

jokes in the "new" Simpsons. They used to have moral lessons in some great old episodes but it was never in your face. It was more ambiguous so the viewer could take what he wanted from it. What's most pathetic to me is the Simpsons today actually tries to mimic shows that have taken from it. It tries hard to be some sorta liberal South Park. I just can't laugh at that. The show used to have much more ingenious tact. It seems to have melted into something the very thing that it used to make fun of all the time. O well. I'm probably the only one who thinks that way.

I finally figured out what's wrong with newer Simpsons after the 90s episode last season. These writers are not invested in the characters. It's not so much that they changed the show's history -- I really liked the episode, honestly. But when people started complaining, it brought to light that that was the problem. A big part of the appeal was you felt for the characters and wanted them to win in the end. Plus, It used to be the really bizarre stuff was saved for Halloween episodes. Now, continuity doesn't matter, and anything they smoke is a potential episode. Luckily I have "My Name Is Earl" now, which has everything the Simpsons used to -- bent humor, outstanding and sprawling supporting cast, vulgarity, and heart.

The problem with the Simpsons is...
by Juemad

it no longer has any heart. In the past the characters had to go through a major struggle each episode... Homer being tempted to cheat or facing his mortality, Bart struggling to pass or dealing with the heartbreak of his first crush, Lisa campaigning to have her beloved Malibu Stacy be meaningful to young girls. All of that came from excellent writing, which is what the show has been missing for many years. I went to the movie with very low expectations and was still disappointed. Laughed maybe once or twice.

You just gave my idea for the series finale. I haven't watched the show in a couple years, just bask in its prime on DVD, but have been thinking for a while that the coolest thing they could do in the series finale was have it so that everyone has aged realistically. Or would that just put us back in the timeline when Lisa almost married the British snob? Hell, I'd revisit that for an hour or two. As long as it's not a damn clip show coughSeinfeldcough.
