Hey Todd, cool looking films. Love the poster for Tokyo Gore Police. Have you seen the film yet? Is it better/comparable to Machine Girl?

Just saw Machine Girl, and while I can understand the crazy appeal, it fell pretty much flat for me as a movie. Uusally, I adore splatter flicks though. How does TGP stack up?

Also, good to hear some Casshern love. I actually quite liked the movie, and found it to be both thoughtful and visually gorgeous. Granted it was also shallow and muddled at various points too. But all in all, I found it ambitious and liked it, though fell short of loving it. I definitely am a fan of the soundtrack.

I really REALLY!!! wanted to enjoy the hell out of that movie. Maybe if I saw it back in like 04 when it was released and I first saw the trailer I would've been that good. But save for a couple of parts it was overly long and muddled. But it was really cool, I guess its based on some old manga? Also Jonah, don't you think that was one of the biggest inspirations for Speed Racer? Old manga, taken seriously using a totally unseen blue screen world? I mean the Brothers W. are known for getting all their ideas from Asian films.

seems like it has poential. The poster is freaky. I saw The Roost and enjoyed it for what it was. Essentially it was like someone went out of there way to make one of those bargain bin 80s horro films where kids are wandering off on lonely roads and scary things show up. It had both a comforting and creepy atmosphere. I live in Maryland and old backroads and loney farm houses are more likely the settings I encounter on a reg basis. For those who cant tell by my rambling, The Roost focused on kids who stumble upon vampire bats who turn their victims into zombies. Check it out! Especially you Chitty.

Hahaha italy banned medical shows, good because they all suck. They said because it was showing medically inaccurate facts. I guess people were watching Scrubs and performing surgery with parodies? I think the most I've ever heard about something "medical" in a movie saving someones life was the heimlich maneuver Mork performs on Bond in Mrs. Doubtfire. I've heard a good 20 stories since that movie came out, even including one within the past year of someone saying that seeing that performed in that movie taught them how to do the maneuver and saved someones life. I guess that movie was good for something?

what I meant is that it was also a good slasher. No, Cold Prey is straight-forward and serious. A bunch of young people on a ski retreat find a resort that is empty, and slowly learn, of course, that someone else is there with him. Despite the killer being a bit ambiguous, the film really works as a horror flick. And, yes the characterization is there.

Either way, I think Cold Prey 2 will need to do something new as well.

I'd say it's more of a "running into crazy fuckers" genre. More of a HILLS HAVE EYES and TEXAS CHAINSAW than say SAW or HOSTEL. But it sure has some sadistic situations in it. It also has some politics and social commentary (it takes place in a future full of riots) but that's the worst part of the movie and frankly it leads nowhere, in my opinion.

I'm from Chile, South America. My name is a weird phonetic transcription of something my buddy and I call eachother. I guess it's hard to explain even in Spanish. So, you don't recommend CALVAIRE? My buddy burn it for me... I have it on my wait list...

Tokyo Gore versus Machine Girl
by twitchfilm
Aug 20th, 2008
01:03:15 PM
Other than the massive amounts of blood in both TGP and Machine Girl are kind of apples and oranges, you know? Machine Girl is very nudge, nudge, wink, wink throughout. It's goofy and meant to be. Tokyo Gore Police, on the other hand, takes itself and the world it's in totally seriously. There are aspects of it that remind me a LOT of Robocop and Starship Troopers. I think TGP is a much better film but it doesn't have the same kind of pop hooks that MG does. And yeah ... TGP has a LOT more blood. As for Cold Prey: I think the first one is pretty close to being a perfect film other than the unfortunate tendency to cut away from the kill shots. Which, admittedly, is a big problem for a slasher film.

Danny we had a drink like that called Pink Panty Pulldowns.

Mix Everclear and a SHITLOAD of pink lemonade.

It was for girls that didn't like the taste of alcohol, but wanted to get drunk.

I'll give you one guess to whether it worked or not.

One guy also thought it would be funny to drink a bunch of it and after a little while was sitting on the sofa.

back in the wide eyed time of 1998, when Arnie was gonna be in I Am Legend, when a new Star Wars film seemed eminent, and Godzilla was gonna rock our world and Reign of Fire sounded like the greatest movie ever, there were going to be two giant shark films in 1999. DBS and MEG. There was so much anticipation for it...and then, nothing. There is a project that truly needs resurrected. But I'll take Alten's The Loch if they can't get Meg off the ground.

I quite enjoyed the Gamera series. Guardian of the Earth was a fun B movie, and Legion was O.K. but rather boring actually. But Iris actually takes the cake. I like how they even attempt to explain why it is giant monsters are drawn to Japan. And the final shot of that movie really makes me yearn for a fourth Gamera in that series. But the follow-up, Gamera the Brave was more of a kiddie film. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't up to snuff either.

Toad, I concede that Emerich Godzilla isn't the worst movie ever, but it really isn't very good, considering it's resources.

I totally agree with you on Trilogy of gamera movies that started in 1995. The early Gamera movies at least the B&W ones, were geared straight at kids. Some of them are just truly awful. I avoided The Brave because i was told by a friend that it sucked turtle eggs.

I am going to do a re-eval of all my Kaiju movies one of these days - to get a proper ranking. No. 1 and 2 will not change. Gojira and Destroy all Monsters. But the rest of the top five will be in flux.

His version of Carcaradon Megalodon are about 100-150 feet in length instead of 50-75 feet long as in Alten's books. Wilson also places his on the coast of Mississippi and I have been to some of the locations.

In one chapter a drunk guy leaves a casino on the beach and heads out to ship island to get a little piece of ass.

The Meg eats his lady friend and he tries to outrun it back to shore of Mississippi.

if you don't already own it, there is a cool little set out there of Toho films that usually runs 19.99 for three movies. They are all Honda films, and while not exclusively kaiju they are:

Varan the Unbelievable-which isn't that great of a movie, but it's fun, as long as you watch the japanese version and not the rancid american version. The special features, including s how to make your own monster workshop are actually cool. It's the filler movie, but for a kaiju fan, you won't mind.

The Mysterians-This is one of my fave Honda movies just because it's just so much silly fun. It features aliens dressed as power rangers who demand japanese women and land, and the military decides they aren't having it. Love this little gem. Also has some nice features.

Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People-this one is a wierd, atmospheric film that is equal parts E.C. horror comic and drug film, and while no kaiju, it's creepy mushroom people are cool. It's a legitimately good and effective movie. Highly recommended.

Not a bad set for 20 bucks.

You jast gave me a fucking nostalgia seizure. I remember the giant turtle, and one time (being 12) I was simming in the ocean, ok... And I just started to go as far as I could (shitty distance for sure, but a whole adventure for a kid) and suddenly I look at my feet and all I see is deep green. I couldn't touch bottom and couldn't even see it. And what suddenly pops into my head? Not Jaws, not pirahnas, THAT FUCKING GIANT TURTLE.

I started swimming back to the shore as fast as I could, afraid to even open my eyes... And when I got there panting and wide eyed I felt like the world's biggest pussy.

...Shia The Beef tore the skin off his face to reveal his inner beast; a hideous hybrid of bat and anteater with razor sharp claws of a demon raptor and the stench of rotten fish permeating from his crotch? The American military would blast him with all they got, though nothing could penetrate the outter shell of that foul beast. So we resort to the last thing we got ta' hit him with, and we hit him good. We send in Wilford Brimley to plow right through him like a bowling ball. What people don't realize is the good ole' Brim was born inside a bathroom stall in The Vatican, September 27, 1934-- so his piss is pretty much holy water. He is the one living being that can put fear in the black heart of that wretched devil, The Beef! With one final swing from The Brim's glowing staff of chivalry and good-will, he puts the beast down for good. He drops trou and proceeds to empty his piss bag all over the creature's bony face-- in the name of the red, white, and blue.

Hughes: "I want you to listen very carefully...Go down and pick up every hooker you can find that weighs exactly 111 pounds, stands five feet even and has true blonde hair. Then go up and get the Spruce Goose gassed and ready. We are heading back over Hepburn's house."

Brimley:"Do you want me to bring the soap, scrub brushes and condoms again?"

Hughes:"Oh these aren't for me my boy. I told Hepburn that it would rain live hookers tonight and I am a man of my word."

Brimley (who no longer finds any of this strange): "What color did you say for the hair?"

Hughes:"Blonde, yes blonde. Yes, very blonde. Blonde..."

Brimley (shakes Hughes back to his senses): "Sir I got it, we'll be ready by midnight."

Will it be scary this time? Hope so.

Best bit in the original - when JoBeth and Craig T go over to the NEIGHbours, trying to be serious but just start laughing, while slapping midges away.

Well I liked that bit anyway. And the guy clawing his own face off.

I wouldn't say it was a rip-off. Yes, people get infected and turn violent. I can see that. But [REC] is more contained, more claustrophobic. And you're behind the camera, peering over other people's shoulders trying to see what's going on. I found it more directly involving.

28 Days Later is very good though. Love the silence at the beginning then the song builds up, getting louder. Quality.

i loved the scene

Holy shit this fucking thing kicks ass!! Carl Weathers acts his ass off in this thing...and I do believe it has the worst miniatures in film history. Thats not to say they're not awesome. The story is great...and the music is weird and hypnotic. I especially liked the doctor guy who is sort of a hybrid between Boss Hoss and Col. Sanders.

Fuck me...that scene with Carl screaming at Magnus to cut the cable when he is hanging off the side of the raft....I've never laughed harder. I don't know what was funnier-- that moment, or Dr. Boss Hoss' toy helicopter exploding the second it hit the water.

All in all its a great weird little film...and I can totally see how a kid would be amazed by it.

Though I am not sure it was as great as for like the 8 some Oscars is was nominated for and 4 it won. Mainly just because it was such a small movie, but then again the only other movies I know that came out that same year is To Catch a Thief and The Trouble With Harry.

Like at first I didn't like the ending because it was to short, and you really wanted to see Marty really get the girl not just allude to is actually happening. But its just kind of funny, a movie you should show your friends that are just like DUDE LETS GO GET DRUNK! Also though if that movie came out today, Marty would've been a serial killer or a rapist. The nativity of the time back then, made him seem like some adorable little unlucky schmo. But that scene where he was trying to force the girl to kiss him was a bit creepy.

You didn't like the 3-D?

Me and my mom thought that it probably wouldn't have been half as fun without it? My mom almost dumped her coke all over me when one of the fish jumped out of the water, it was pretty funny. I think the best part was the floating rocks scene. I wonder who'll get into drugs first? Freddie Highmore or Josh Hutcherson? Any bets? My moneys on Josh, because the Brits usually stay the course. Also the 14 year age difference between Breden and the Northlander was a bit creepy, but thats only if you knew that Brenden was older then 25.

and no one can prove that Brendan is over 25, though he has a 25 yr old son in Mummy 3. Anyone see that movie? I have free tickets for it, and still havent.

Also, I liked the 3-D, but so much of it was just doofy stuff flying out of the screen. And where i saw it, the edge of the screen kept destroying the illusion. The fish and the rocks were far more effective. Actually, so was the mi
