I'm all for newly commissioned Sci-fi, but think this is just the Stargate leading to the land of ever diminishing returns. I hope I'm proved nicely wrong.

Also, when is Stargate gonna get a hot chick? Sure Amanda Tapping and Tori Higginston are pretty, but they are no Andromeda or even Seven of Nine.

Stargate is a better series overall than Star Trek. Sg-1 was just as good as Deep Space Nine and NG and far and away better than Voyager, and Atlantis is better than SG-1. It may have lacked the budget of a bigger sci-fi series, but it had freaking McGuyver as its lead and then Browder and Black playing better roles and seemingly having more fun than they had on Farscape.

You might not like Stargate, but give it the respect it deserves. SG-1 was the longest running American science fiction show for a reason, and it wasn't because of Joe Public. Atlantis is great, and I'm sure Universe will at least be good.

Personally, while Stargate has never been the best thing ever, it's enjoyable enough popcorn hokum, so I'm sure I'll watch this just like I did the previous two shows. You know, unless this is Voyager levels of horrible...

I could even make a smart ass comment about Stargate: Voyager, but I won't.

I will suggest that the producers and writers for this new show take a look back at Star Trek: Voyager and learn from that shows stumbles when dealing with premise of being lost in the middle of uncharted space. Limited number of crew and equipment, turning your back on all established good and bad guys from your old series, just to name a couple of things.

I won't bash the show yet, you never know, Sci-Fi has been know to mess up and actually put something worth watching out there once in awhile.

...or you could walk into any one of your local dealers and purchase it for the previously stated 20 bucks...

If I'm craving sci-fi, I'll watch Joost, BBCAmerica, or DVDs.

Seriously, they've done that at least three times. (Not with Teal'c... yet.) I'm a loyal fan of all the Stargates, but I can laugh at it too.

Thanks for the tip, lynxpro. I've never seen Eureka before, so this time loop episode was a great one to start off with.

Stargate ain't great, but it's fun. Atlantis had plenty of good episodes and while this new series might be using the Voyager concept, it's not such a bad concept. Most SciFi channel shows are of lower quality (except for Farscape of course, sorry BSG never got there) so I adjust my expectations accordingly and I'll enjoy it for what it is.

They need to pay special attention to casting and that's what prevented Atlantis from getting off the ground. They did good with McKay, but I think that most people can agree that Teyla is one of the worst character in all of fiction. One of the most poorly acted as well. She must have been blowing someone to be (practically) the only one who avoided being kicked off the show. In fact, if she gets carried over, I won't watch the new show (which is stupidly named btw). Vala also turned out to be pretty entertaining on SG1. But the "commander" will be a tough one. They have to stop trying to cheaply clone O'Neil's character and come up with something new already. And although I once really loved Sam, she really bores the shit out of me these days, so move on there.
