Screw OU. Oklahoma State all the way, baby! Gooo cowboys! Seriously, you "Ohioans" (possibly the stupidest plural form of a word ever) think that just because Republican presidental candidates win your state all the time you can assume everyone knows OU and OSU refer to YOU.

IT.

DOES.
NOT.

I'll have you know just as many people think OU and OSU refer to the great universities of the great state of OKLAFUCKINHOMA! So there!

I have a friend who lives nearby, and she's always wanted me to come out for their ghost tours or even the Halloween nights where you can stay there until dawn. Creepy as all hell, whether you believe in ghosts or not.

I agree with you. As someone who lives in the New England, when I hear OU I think of the Sooners. I also think of OK St. more for OSU as well. At least your state has a legit National Title contender, not a sham like the Buckeyes.
When comparing states, it's pretty simple...

If there wasn't that song about where the wind comes sweeping down the plains, the rest of the country would forget Oklahoma even exists. I have no idea why anyone would acknowledge going to college there. Sure, Ohio is a punchline kind of state, and OSU grads should be pitied, but at least people know it's there. And that Maine guy is rightly upset because they have so very, very little going for them up North. Steven King has to remind us constantly that Maine still exists, and is not relegated to the boring parts of history. People can easily imagine all sorts of horrors running around up there because, honestly, who would ever visit to see for themselves? Hell, even that "Deadliest Catch" show proves that real men fish in Alaska instead of doing that pansy-ass lobster fishing. Not that I'm trying to inflame any inter-state fights or anything...

When I saw it at first I enjoyed it as an afternoon film and nothing more. Then a few years later a few friends rave about it so I go back. The same movie: some nice ideas, shots and a whole lot of cheese and what seems like an unnecessary few final scenes. Now, years later it garners so much recognition I began to feel pretty alienated; found myself spitting insults at it when a friend began singing its praises recently on top of it topping a few Empire's readers lists. Then i calmed down. I like the film, always have, but I really can't appreciate it as more than a fairly run of the mill (best of the bunch) overcoming-the-odds flick.

Or a prequel. Or a remake. Or at least a crossover with something. Never mind what, as long as it's dark and gritty. And whatever it is, Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes should produce it and it should be scored by one of those clones of Hans Zimmer, those "hey-I'm-even-worse-than-my-me ntor-Hans" ones. Remember to get Shia for Andy!

Its hardly Deliverence or Hostel. The set-up, and Andy's struggles inside are awful, but the way he overcomes them, and the relationships he forms, make for a film I'd be happy to sit through on a sunday afternoon; swamped by a large sofa and enough food and drink to last throughout. Damn, now I'm considering watching it this weekend.

Greatest state in the goddamn union. I live in Massachusetts now and I get so much shit for being from the midwest, but we do so many things better out there. Our government isn't chocking on bureaucracy for one thing (or at least it's not as bad as it is out here in Massachusetts) and we use the mile marker for our exit numbers instead of making them a bland sequence. It makes driving long distances so much easier when you know exactly when an exit will show up.

seriously screwed up. I loved it. The major buggers himself, ha. Think of how cheaply they can make it. A few flashback scenese aside, all you need is a stretch of road for sets. Unfortunately Rage has become reality. Okay, time to get on my high horse. I saw Shawshank when it was first released because I head read the story years prior. It came and went rather quickly. Then, the academy awards came out, and it was nominated for best picture. All of a sudden it was re-released, and I saw it again. I've lost track of the number of times I've seen it since. Besides Red and Andy, Clancy Brown delivers his usual greatness as another classic villain; Mr Hadley, captain of the guard. Then there's the warden. I can never remember his name, but the guy's been in everything from Demolition Man to Star Trek. To anyone who has never read the novella from Different Seasons, please do so. You will not regret it.

I must disagree. I saw Cider House Rules, and it was good, but not something I would want to see again. Even with the great cast it just couldn't help but drag in too many places. It was 90 minutes of Tobey Maguire moping around. It had some moments, but overall it can't compare to The Shank.

horror movies, but in his non-horror movies not only does he not do a cameo, but the fact that it comes from one of his books is so downplayed. All you see is a tiny note saying based on a story by Stephen King. Stand by Me is a great film, considered a classic. A lot of people said of that film and this one they didn't know it was by Stephen King.

Blu-ray comes out in November! I'm there! Great King read too for those interested...plus you get 'Apt Pupil' and The Body' (aka 'Stand by me') and 'The Breathing Method' which is a twisted short story that is still in development hell. If it finally goes forward, then each story in "Different Seasons" would have made it to celluloid. Unless I'm missing one? Been over 10 years since I read the thing...

Shawshank is a well made movie and Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were a excellent team...but is it just me or is this one of the most depressing movies ever made???....even after Tim Robbins escapes and Morgan Freeman is err....freed, it STILL manages to make me feel like shit while i watch it. i WANT to be happy for these characters but i can't....because for two hours ive been stuck in a dark dreary prison with these fellas, and the outcome didn't do enough to smear away the extra coat of shit applied over the course of the film, this movie didn't rain shit on the characters.....it poured shit on them. what happened to Darabont???.....The Mist is one of the most unintentionally funny movies ive seen in some time and im not a Green Mile fan either.

but as everyone knows, it's football that really matters. It's what makes a college a 'great' college. I would trade you any potential future b-ball championships for a chance to play in say the Rose Bowl. THAT is fucking big time, and would be far more impressive considering where Uconn football has come from...Memorial Stadium getting their asses handed to them by the likes of Umass. Granted, they ain't close to that, but at least they've made two bowl games since '04.

Different than the book but I'm unaware about what happened in real life. Did they ever catch that big ass Lovecraftian thing? I forsee a cab tied to its back and a bunch of people dressed up like residents of Bedrock riding across the ocean to some cave people destination.

I much much prefer King's original ending but how did Darabont get the guy the story is based on to talk? I think if I had just done what he did I would still be screaming and flinging shit at people. I sure as shit wouldn't sell the story or anything.

Shawshank is superb, sure, but everything else he's ever touched falls somewhere between "mediocre" and "colossally shitty." Green Mile was a bloated waste of a great novel, The Mist (apart from the pious cunt) was an insult to logic, The Majestic was maudlin crap, and then you're just left with a bunch of half-baked screenplays (The Fly II? The Blob remake? Branagh's Frankenstein?). As a previous talkbacker said, this guy is filmdom's equivalent of Dexy's Midnight Runners. And if anyone brings up his godawful fanboy Indy IV script as a defense I will come through your computer screen and punch you in the dick.
